The
American Standard project was one that Henninge actively pursued. Fascinating
projects don't always come from the latest technological developmentsjust
consider products that never change, or change very slowly. Or think of
products that seem frozen in time like umbrellas, step ladders, or door
knobs. The toilet is another excellent example of a product that has changed
very little over time. For decades American Standard, the largest manufacturer
of toilets in the world, dominated the North American market. When we contacted
them, they were involved in redesigning their one-piece, residential, low-flush
toilet. They wanted a new design to compete with the similar but more modern-looking
and increasingly successful toilets of their competitors. |
