We've
been working with HearthStone for over a decade, and like many business
relationships, this one began with a small job. Initially we were asked
to design an attractive and comfortable door handle that would replace the
existing tool-like handle, which was being used as a combination fire poker,
ash-grate puller, and latch T-handle. This feature was a functional hold-over
from the back-to-the-land movement of the 1970s when the wood stove industry
was revitalized after years of dormancy. During the 1980s the industry began
to evolve. Decorative cast-iron products looking more like fine antique
furniture than blocky functional furnaces began to appear. After all, many
wood stoves are not used for heating year round, but are viewed as a secondary,
decorative heat source. HearthStone needed beautiful furniture qualities
added to their old line of wood stoves and wanted a new line of gas-burning
cast iron stoves that incorporated similar aesthetic qualities. |
