During the grunge decade of the 1990s, snowboarding rapidly grew into a popular winter alternative to skiing. Shown here is a 1992 binding model given to Henninge at the start of the project, the ancestors of which came from water skiing bindings. The function of this new application had not yet been fully realized. We found it very exciting to be involved with a product in its formative years, when the market had not yet settled into complacent standards. During a period like this, small contributions can take root and great innovations can alter the course of an industry. Burton needed a new binding highback for its popular three-strap alpine binding to improve the function and appearance of the product for the next winter season, and we obliged.
