During the project, four full-sized models were built. The original model, a test-buck, was used to work out the clever interlock system that binds the major parts together when mounted to a wall. These two additional models were fabricated for aesthetic and volume studies and allowed people to physically test the product before it existed. This stage is always helpful in understanding the effectiveness of a design. Occasionally a design can look wonderful on screen or in a drawing, but it is not until a potential user actually looks, touches, and reacts to the product that we are truly capable of evaluating how well it has met our goals. The bottom line is that the product has to feel right—both to the purchaser and the user!
